A paradox of erudition and homicidal mania, R.M. Renfield makes for a fascinating case study. His zoöphagous compulsion to consume living creatures is motivated by the desire to strengthen his vital powers. In exchange for eternal life — and a cumulative supply of the lesser Carnivora — he has submitted to the influence of Count Dracula. The Master is at hand…and Renfield is ever eager to do his bidding.
